Vaishali wins in Bhubaneswar Open chess crown

Former World and Asia under-12 gold medallist R Vaishali of Tamil Nadu added yet another trophy to her cabinet by emerging champion in the 2nd Bhubaneswar Open All-India FIDE Rating (2099 & below) Chess Tournament here at Hotel Empires today.

Woman Fide Master Vaishali drew her ninth and last round with Koustav Chatterjee (WB) to lift the trophy, which also fetched her a cash prize of Rs 20,000. A student of Chennai-based Velammal Matriculation School, bespectacled Vaishali and Maharashtra`s Shantanu Bhambure tied for the top spot with eight points each. But Bhambure settled with the runner-up prize of Rs 15,000 as he was edged out in Buchholz tie-break by the 13-year-old Chennai girl.
